Graduation Requirements
All classes must earn 24 credits for graduation.
| Electives | Other offered/approved courses Sophomores have 1 mandatory semester elective (0.5 credits). * Juniors have 1 elective (1 credit). Seniors have 3 electives (3 credits). |

| Foreign Language | 2 credits (in one language) |

| Mathematics | 3 credits |
| Science | 3 credits (2 credits must be in Biology and Chemistry) |
| Social Studies | 2 credits |
| Theology | A year's course must be successfully completed each year a student attends Brother Rice. |
| U.S. History | 1 credit (including the passing of Public Law Test #195) |
* Sophomores choose 1 out of 6 mandatory semester electives:
- Art
- Consumer Education
- Geography
- Marketing
- Speech
- Visual Basic Programming
** Exceptions require administrative approval.
Students and parents are responsible for keeping abreast of the fulfillment of graduation requirements from year to year so that there will be no deficiencies at graduation time. The Focus Program has modified graduation requirements.
State University Requirements
The Illinois State Board of Higher Education has set the following requirements for admission to state universities. It is recommended that all college-bound students meet these requirements.
- 4 units of English
- 3 units of Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry, Advanced Algebra)
- 3 units of Science
- 3 units of Social Studies
- 2 units of the same foreign language, music, art, or computers
The Brother Rice curriculum will enable our students to satisfy the Board's requirements for Science and Social Studies by taking their elective options in those disciplines.
