Annual Fund

There is no doubt that Brother Rice High School will weather these stormy financial times. However, at the beginning of the school year, we had no idea how damaging the economic downturn would be to so many of our students and their families. The number of students who may be forced to leave Brother Rice High School - as a result of their families' deteriorating financial health - remains to be seen.

Brother Rice High School has, up to this point, met the demand for tuition assistance for truly needy students from our small endowment, fro our yearly fundraising events, and from gifts to the annual fund that are restricted to tuition assistance. In addition, Brother Rice High School has the LIFEGUARD fund, a special fund that provides emergency tuition assistance to current students who would otherwise have to withdraw from school for financial reasons.

Frankly, all of these tuition assistance funds are quickly drying up. At the same time, the number of families that truly need tuition assistance in varying amounts is rising dramatically. Without assistance from an unusually high number of students may have to withdraw from school soon - if not at the end of the school year.

We must not allow this to happen. No student should have to leave our school for financial reasons. So, if you have been less affected from the damage caused by the world economic crisis, may I please ask you to consider a special restricted LIFEGUARD fund gift as a part of your annual fund giving? You could be instrumental in assuring that no student will have to be turned away because his family has unexpectedly fallen on hard times.

NO - A number of generous donors have "come to the rescue" since 1998 and helped deserving students by providing emergency tuition assistance to current students who would otherwise have to withdraw from school for financial reasons.
