Alumni Golf Outing

Gleneagles Country Club in Lemont - Friday June 19, 2009. Founded in 1986, the golf outing has grown to play host to as many as 240 golfers, most of whom also join their fellow Crusaders for dinner. While the Alumni Association raises approximately $15,000 from the tournament, making it a close second to the ad book as a source for funding, most of the fees and donations are poured right back into the event, which has made it an affordable outing that creates lasting memories.

Alumni Softball League

Established in 1973, the Alumni Softball League of Brother Rice is the largest high-school alumni softball league in the Chicagoland area. While the play is competitive, the league is also noted for its family "picnic-like" atmosphere on Sunday afternoons. Initial team meetings take place in April, with games played in May, June, and July.

All-Alumni Reunion Dinner with Ad Book

Friday, November 14, 2008 at the Oak Lawn Hilton. This event is held each year in November. Special anniversary years celebrate the Classes of '63, '68, '73, '78, '83, '88, '93, '98, and '03.

Alumni who cannot attend can be there in spirit with ad-book messages to classmates and honorees. Table sponsors or captains who generate $1,000 in ticket sales receive an Emerald Page if they meet the deadline. Ads are the primary source of revenue for the Alumni Association, which finances the Rice Review, wages for the alumni secretary, Junior of the Year Scholarship funds, post-game receptions (with sponsors), start-up costs for special events that may or may not break even, donations to local benefits for family hardships, and various other costs.

The cost is $55 for advanced reservations and $65 at the door.

Career Day

Wednesday, March 11, 2009- Alumni share stories about their various paths from Brother Rice to their careers. The junior classes devote most of the day to hosting alumni.

Contact Jim Casey at jcasey@brrice.org or at 773-429-4456 if you would like to participate. It is a great time when you get to talk to Brother Rice students and network with your fellow alumni. You also get to relive memories of your Brother Rice days and see the yearly capital improvements in our building.

Class, Club, and Team Agents

The Class Agent concept is a friend and fund-raising process in which alumni keep in contact with members of their graduating class.

Endowment Classic Golf Outing

Monday, September 8, 2008. Join fellow alums for a day of barbecue, golf, and a grand buffet dinner all for the Brother Rice Endowment Fund, the primary objective of which is to raise funds for financial aid for needy students. Contact Mike McShane at mmcshane@brrice.org for more information.

Fall and Spring Rice Review with Inside Look

The Alumni Association sponsors two Rice Reviews and two Inside Looks (fall and spring). This is the number-one expense for the Alumni Association, as there is no charge to alumni. The winter and summer editions of the Inside Look are sponsored by the school in order to keep more than 16,000 graduates informed about school and alumni events.

Homecoming Reception

Friday, October 3, 2008 vs. Providence, 7:30 p.m., at Gary J. Little Stadium. The Alumni Association and Dads' Club serve hot dogs, hamburgers, and pop for alumni and their families.

Bring your family. The whole family will get free refreshments.

Junior of the Year Scholarship

Founded and named after John P. Leahy '61, this award honors five finalists, including one winner, nominated first by their fellow classmates and then the teachers and staff members of Brother Rice High School. Finalists are awarded plaques at the All-Alumni Reunion Dinner and receive scholarship funds toward senior-year tuition.

Monthly Board Meetings-Second Monday of the Month

Beginning in August and continuing through June (11 months, not in July), the alumni director and board president preside over the agenda that includes reports on the results and progress of past and on-going activities.

Post-Game Basketball Reception

TBA. Pizza and beverages served in the cafeteria after a Brother Rice baskeball game (usually vs. Leo High School) for alumni and their families.

This is usually held on a February night.

Special Events

Over the years, the Alumni Office has sponsored anniversaries of championships and memorial liturgies. The Alumni Association also assists organizations and teams who sponsor alumni gatherings and special recognition ceremonies.

Special Support

Alumni also support the school as donors, members of the Dads' Club, the Board of Directors, and the Development Council, and by attending and/or organizing groups to support the "Rice Remembers" Dinner and the Endowment Classic. While these activities and events are not sponsored by the Alumni Association, the director, secretary, and volunteer members offer continuous and valuable support.

STAT (Seniors Today Alumni Tomorrow)

Established in 2003, Seniors Today Alumni Tomorrow connects today's seniors with the Alumni Association by inviting them to purchase a STAT polo shirt that they can wear in lieu of a shirt and tie on Mondays. Participation has shown increased momentum as the special privilege is a noticeable display of unity with alumni.
